Byteplanes - my first completed game!

Byteplanes is my first completed game: a classic arcade shooter available now on Google Play Store!

Help your little byteplane destroy its enemies and survive for as long as possible! Fly over fields and meadows while avoiding bombs, dodging bullets, and grabbing ammo and power-ups!

I'd be grateful for any comments or suggestions.

Looks cool, A youtube-trailer/demo would improve the chance have more gamers to try it out.
Like myself, my old shitty android-phone donīt allow me to install more apps due lack of memory, but I may try it on my workplace later.

Thank you for the suggestion, I will definitely try to make a trailer.

Finally tried out bytesplanes. I found my old nexus7, reseted it to factorystatus due to it was slow and useless. first thing I did was installed ur game.

It was a pretty good game, but a quick tutorial/info before start would be nice.

First I did was tilting my nexus, but after that I found out steering is controlled by touch left or right screen. And it was some trail and error of what to avoid and what to pickup.

I really liked the style of the game, and itīs a simple but great gamemechanic for mobile devices.

Thank you very much for taking the time to install and try my game, and I really appreciate your feedback. I'll try adding tilting controls to the game, but I'm not sure it will fit the play style well, I'll have to see.

Sorry to hear there was some trial and error involved in what to pick up and what tp avoid, I'd be interested to heat which objects seem unclear so I could change them.

As far as tutorials go, I am thinking about showing a picture of two thumbs on each side of the screen so the player knows where to press, but I wasn't planning on including a tutorial on the gameplay, I guess I thought the goal of the game was obvious enough, but I'll give that some thought as well.

Hey there, Sartoris.

I've played your game and I must say, this game has a lot of potential but at the same time, there is room for improvements.

Music is enjoyable and relaxing, it's a really nice touch. Graphics are cute and simple, but there are couple of things to perhaps think about:

    1) Background perhaps could be a little less bright/colorful, so the planes and objects would stand out better. I found myself difficult to navigate and see who is where and what.

    2) Clouds are a little strange. Whilst the look cood, they represented to us (players) as if we are looking at them from the side, not top. Also. They seem to move slowly in direction the player moves, but slower than the player. Those are damn speedy clouds :P I believe they should go down from top to bottom like enemies do, to gives us a better impression that we are flying.

Other than that, I would like to agree with Gullberger. Tutorial would be a nice thing to have. It also wouldnt hurt to have a difficulty increase over time. Instead, you're drowning by the enemies straight away :)

With that being said, keep working on the game! It has good potential.

Thanks for the fantastic feedback, Kanugane! I'll try and decrease the brightness of the background and change the speed of the clouds. I understand they may look a bit strange, as though they are seen from the side, and not the top. I'll try and work on that too. Thanks for the feedback on the difficulty, I'll look into improving that.

You're welcome! I will keep my eye on the game and play it from time to time, giving feedbacks! Just keep working on it :)

I've just done a quick re-balancing of the difficulty so that it increases over time - basically gives you a 25-second breathing room at the start of play during which fewer enemies spawn, and after that period they start spawning faster and in greater numbers. Also, I decreased the brightness of the background, so hopefully now things are somewhat easier to make out.

I'll start working on integrating some sort of tutorial, and maybe redraw the clouds, but that may take some time. Still, thanks for all the useful comments! :)

That is awesome! As I said, the game has a potential so keep working on it.

I tested a new update. Indeed the beginning now works better with enemies popping up more and more eventually.

A small note: perhaps add a different sound for powerups so players can not visually differ the pickle able objects. Other than there I have nothing to be picky about :)

Thank you for checking out the new update, and for the suggestion about the sound, I'll add that to the to-do list. :)

Just tried the game. Was enjoyable. Well done.

Just tried the game as well. It's a neat little game. The only problems i found were:
1 - I dont know what is my health bar, or when am i about to die.
2 - The thumb is in front of the plane, and that UI stuff on the bottom. Maybe you could move that somewhere else, and move the plane a little bit forward.
Other than that the game is good. I like the music very much.

Thank you Kovakomes and RedGroovy. Regarding the health bar, you have a shield (represented by the circle of particles around your ship), and once you lose it you have three health points represented by three stars at the bottom of the screen. Your thumb doesn't have to be on the plane, I wanted the player to move the plane by touching the bottom left and right corners of the screen. I'll think about putting the UI at the top of the screen.
