Game Jolt is another good one. If it does well on those then you can move it to Steam but you'd better do some marketing!

I publish on itch.io, but am planning to join gamejolt as well.

Right now, GameSalad Arcade, but, I hope to expand to even more at some point!

Itch.io and Gamejolt are on my list, but I'm focusing on getting Steam setup as well. Once that's done I can hit some of the other sites for more exposure with distribution such as Humble Bundle and Fanatical.

I have never explored publishing to these sites. But I hope to soon. A side question to this do you use these sites as a player as well?

Yes , I use them both as a developer and a gamer .

I haven't published games yet, but when I make something cool I plan on putting it on Itch.io and Gamejolt.

If you're making a Mobile game you can also publish it to the Google Play Store!

I'll add to CyanGaming that if you're publishing for mobile, you may also want to look into the iOS App Store, allowing you to potentially cover most phones between Android and iOS.

(Just note that some code may need to be modified to work with each specific platform, depending on the game. Having a multi-platform game engine like Unity or Game Maker Studio helps.)

Itch.io, GameJolt, Kongregate, Newgrounds, and Amazon App Store.

Itch.io and GameJolt are great standalone hosting sites, but for me it is hard to get downloads.

Many people visit Kongregate and Newgrounds, so you could expect a lot of views.

I use the Amazon App Store since it is free to release games while the App Store and Google Play charges money for developer accounts.

I am currently on itch.io, then may be on GameJolt and Desura. Try to make some income from there then go to Steam($100 per game), also remember that for new developers Steam poses some restrictions like 1 month of cooling period to publish your first game, plan for them.

It seems so, a few months ago it was fine after being dead for a long time, again it happened.

If it would get stable, it seems promising, as it's trying to offer services like steam without much restrictions and entry fees. But remember IndieGameStand, there's always some risk for anyone who relies on games.

My game is in a early alphastage and will be a freeware, so I think itīs not ready for publish yet, but were can I upload builts 4 free so betatesters can try it out?

I'd select betatesters manually to send them through e-mail or better IM a game for a test, to receive a valuable feedback, Gullberger!
