@DoobieDoctor
Man that game gives me like major anxiety lol. Sharks swimming around and the dude moves so slow. I love it!!! Throw some jaws music in the background and Id probably have a heart attack.

@raymondlee306
Very cool man! My computer must not be up to spec because it was kind of laggy, but damn was it beautiful. Did you design all of that by yourself???

@statelessrich & @raymondlee306: I played both of your games and left appropriate comments on your game pages. I just want to say thank you so much for participating. This was my first game jam, and although I was disappointed to not have been able to work with other people on this one, seeing your work has more than made up for that.

Rich, your game has what a lot of games are missing these days: Real charm. I love games like Call of Duty, but devs like you prove that as long as a game is fun and enjoyable, it doesn't matter if it costs millions of dollars to make or not.

Raymond, I wish I could've played your game longer on my old laptop. I promise I will give it a thorough go-around once I have the cash to upgrade my computer. I can only imagine how awesome it would be with the Oculus Rift!

Tim: Where's your game? I saw your "Photoshop mess" was in development...
Edit: Tim, I forgot to say thanks for playing my game! You're officially the first person to ever provide a written review for one of my released games.

Yeah my games a no-go. All that works is the dude jumping. Was too busy working on new features for GDU! :/

But the good news is new recruits are coming in on Friday :D.

And dude np, it was awesome. Really enjoyed it. I still want to play Squigglyfrog's game!!! It looks cool!

You know once the GDU work settles down and we get more people involved...it would be really cool to have another one of these. Even though I didnt finish my game it was still fun taking on teh challenge, and playing everyone elses. Maybe we can even make this a monthly thing?

Yeah sorry I didn't reply on Twitter about the monthly thing. I think it would be great. I dunno if I would participate in every single one, though. One thing I learned from this jam is it is HARD to get things done in a timely fashion. My girlfriend put up with me staying at home to work on it after work on most days, and then there are days like today, the deadline day, where I spend allllllll day on the couch working on it, feeling frustrated because I haven't even started on the sound. :p

But I would totally love to see what games we could come up with in a once-a-month game jam. Even the two I saw so far impressed me.

Well I think we'd streamline it more...and allow use of premade assets etc. Im sure there are ways we could reduce the amount of time developers spend on creating it. Like maybe one day I say hey...make a game with these 10 assets. IDK...its there though, we just got to figure it out.

If not every month maybe every couple of months.

DanaLovesVidya #69 20 138

It was definitely a challenge using all of my own assets.

But I don't think it was ever a rule that you had to use your own assets. I just chose to do it 'cause I'm OCD about things like that.

Thanks for the comments guys. I can take some of the pretty out and scale down the post processing. That should make it easier to run on mid range pc's a little smoother.
"Did you design all of that by yourself???"
I designed the layout and did the water physics and flashlight, music etc. Some of the entities where purchased during sales on other sites for the sake of time and I plan on using them in an FPS I'm working on so I got double duty out of the assets. While I have been 3D modeling for a long time, I have to make some sacrifices and use purchased media so I can allocate my resources and time to actually making them game.
Like I said there's going to be a lot of stuff and things for the player to interact with added as it evolves.

DoobieDoctor5000, What is your screen resolution? That might have a lot to do with it. I had to make it 1280 x 800 for the rft, but I can recompile it to better match laptop screens. That should help with some of the lag.

For reference my test laptop is a Lenovo Ideapad Y570 with the Nvidia card and my development PC is a Dell XPS Studio 8300. Both have 2nd gen i7's with hyperthreading turned on.

Squigglyfrog will post his game here in a week or so. Im in south dakota right now due to the death of my father... but, once this is all taken care of, I will still get a playable version put up. I havent coded in over a week, and kinda anxious.. the funeral was today, so for now, time to crash..

Doobie, thank you so much for the great feedback! Comments like yours are what motivate me to keep developing :)

Squiggly, I'm very sorry for your loss...

@raymondlee306 - My laptop's screen resolution is 1366 x 768.

@SquigglyFrog Studios - You will get through it. Every day and every time you think of your father, you will feel like you can't, but you will. My father died a little over 5 years ago, and although I know I will never "move on", it does get better. To this day, whenever I hear a classic rock song, I think of him. It used to make me cry. Now it makes me smile. Think of the good times, and try not to focus or dwell on negativity.

@Statelessrich - Keep making awesome games and I'll keep on commenting!

Alright.. this is done through the clickonce built into VS.. so hopefully it works properly.. It *SHOULD* install the xna 4 as needed... so let me know if it does not...

http://gamedevunderground.com/game/game-jam/sharkbites

This is also just a base version of the game.. powerups were all disabled in this version.. and technically there is no end.. as the jumpers hit the water, they were going to swim to the island, and once so many were safe, it would end.. but with the funeral and all, well that all got shoved to the side.. but this gives you the gist of it. :) Im thinking of reworking it, finishing it and releasing it on the windows 8 market.. this version should work on xp or later.. but does NOT have any touch control.. just mouse.. I have a version for the win 8 store and win rt as well that are all touch enabled..

Instructions: see jumpers fall from sky... your belly is rumbling.. click the water to jump out and try to eat the jumpers.. but be careful... jumping frivolously is penalized.. (going to make that into more of a game mechanic later) ..

all assets except for the shark were licensed via CC or PD.. the shark is kinda borrowed from a symantec flash app.. =D A little slow at first, then it picks up.. Your goal, see how many guys you can eat..

@SquigglyFrog Studios - Thank you so much for participating, even with the recent tragedy. I'm glad I made the deadline a "loose" deadline. I enjoyed playing your game. It runs just fine on my system. I got to level 8 before I called it quits (as you said there's no ending). I left a comment on the game page, also. Great work!

THanks.. I actually plan to continue working on it just because. adding the powerups and powerdowns, ending, and fleshing it out a bit more in general.. :)
